Maw.

Been working on this painting for weeks now, finally it's done! This is "Maw", it's in Egypt but in Chinese we have the same pronunciation but we write it as "Mao".
It's kind of fascinating how we actually shares the same culture throughout the world. There's lucky cat in Japan, China have it too and guess what, Egyptian has Bast, the cat goddess.

So here he is, the god of cat, a cunning entity that will grant you your wish if he likes you enough. He loves to play tricks on people who came to ask for his blessings. The Necklace around his neck was Cleopatra's, she came to ask him for the throne. He granted her. So everything went smoothly, Cleopatra killed her brother and became the queen. And as we all know, she killed herself in the end for Antony.

Then her necklace was presented to Maw as a sign of  her gratitude for his help to obtain the throne. From then on, people adorn his statue in the temple with necklace. He is often portrayed as a genderless god clutching a rat in his hand. He's believe to ward of famine, protect the harvest and bring fortune and goodluck.

Hope you guys like it :)

Andre & Sani

Wedding invitation for Andre and Sani. They have special memories together in Tokyo and thus, decided to make Tokyo as their wedding theme. I really love the one that they are sitting at the noodle stall, had so much fun sketching it. Never thought that a noodle stall can be so romantic.

If you guys are looking to create a creative and fun filled invitation for your wedding, feel free to drop me an e-mail at Laubenheim@hotmail.com . See you until the next post and have a good weekend, folks!

Inspector Cumulus

I submitted my piece for Drawing Cumulus Competition few days ago, happy to see it finally appear on the blog.
Click here to see it on TOYSREVILS blog.

My idea of the story is about cumulus being hot on heels with this criminal mastermind and somehow the investigation lead him into this strip club where he got his first lap dance *AHEM* he's a guy right? And if he's not gay then I'm sure deep down inside he likes it.

Why wouldn't he go all cumulonimbus?! You see, this girl has the most beautiful cumulonimbus he had ever seen, and it's much bigger and darker than his, which guy of this modern era wouldn't like a girl who is strong, independent and have so much character to the extend you can literally see all those through her hair?

But! Isn't all this too much of a coincidence? I mean, clouds patterned panty and afro hair in a strip club? Like seriously...Afro? that unsexy looking panty? In a strip club? Could this be a trap? We never know, just cut Inspector Cumulus some slack and let him have some fun in his hectic and boring life once in a while.

Wedding Illustrations

Done a freelance illustrations for Albert & Christine's wedding invitation. Their theme is autumn, it's been a fun process! I think it would really look good if it's done with gold hot stamp in the publishing process. What do you think?

The lovely couple.

Lovely autumn garden

Sin City Exhibition at The National Gallery

Went to The National Gallery for the Sin city exhibition on 8 April 2011, this exhibition is presented by E(art)H Project. I took the pictures using my IPhone so pardon the quality. Tsk, must make note to myself to bring real camera next time. So here it is, few of the works being showcased there.

Another two mural from other artists.
This brass etching works from Rocka Radipa is another gem i found there, it's really beautiful and such a fine art I'd say!

"Disharmonic Food Chain" by Komunitas Grafis Minggiran

Below is a painting by Fx Lucky which i find the whole concept is interesting. He'll be having another solo exhibition early December this year. He's such a nice guy too, i asked so many questions about his work process and he didn't mind. Come and see his other works this December at CGartspace, Jakarta.

"Today Sin" by Fx Lucky

"Memo Kota" by Aidi Yupri

"Time Machine" by Suryadi Suyamtina

Plastic waste  installation art by Tisna Sanjaya

Plastic grounded to pieces.

The painting "Panen Plastik dan Beras"- "Harvest of Plastic and Rice"

The details

There are hands and feet in the murky water.

"Once Upon a Time in Sumatra" by Syarif Hidayat
Look at those fur! I kept holding back my urge to stroke the painting because the fur just look so real! Soft and furry!
"Seeds and Secret" by Jumaadi
I feel uncomfortable viewing his works. The drawings just...i don't know...it gross me out but i can't stop staring. If only i can look past all the scary black dots pattern there, i think i would really enjoy what he's trying to tell. Ending this post with a picture of how the gallery looks like. : )
